Job Description Job Description GENERAL DESCRIPTION : Perform
athletic training duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
This will include prevention and treatment of athletic injuries,
staffing of practices and contests and other duties appropriate for

trainer will need to be a strong communicator verbally and will
also need to have a working understanding of communication through
electronic means with other health care providers,
student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. The assistant
athletic trainer will also need to be able to use electronic record
keeping of injuries, treatment and other pertinent information.
CUSTOMER SERVICE : This position will provide customer service to
student-athletes primarily. This is important in retaining
student-athletes, but also in communicating necessary information
to the coaching staff. Good work by the athletic training staff
also provides a valuable service to the parents of student-athletes
so that they will feel that their child is safe while participating
in athletics at Illinois Tech. Special Schedule Requirements: The
schedule varies according to practice and contest times and dates.
Early morning, late evening and weekend schedules are common in
this position. The Head Athletic Trainer works with the athletic
training staff to balance the schedules and keep long hours at a
minimum. Qualifications: SUPERVISION & BUDGET AUTHORITY: This
position will not directly supervise any other position. Some
authority over athletic training interns may be assigned by the
Head Athletic Trainer. No budget authority is assigned to this
position. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE : Bachelor’s degree required.
Master’s degree preferred. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS : Required knowledge
of athletic training equipment and up to date procedures on how to
use it. Basic computer operations and either knowledge of, or
willingness to learn, how to enter data into medical history
software. Physical Environment and Requirements : This job takes
place in the athletic training room and indoor and outdoor athletic
venues. The position requires quite a bit of standing or working in
outdoor weather. Certifications and Licenses: BOC Certified
Athletic Trainer in good standing Illinois State Licensure in good
standing Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer CPR/AED
Certification Bachelor’s degree required Master’s degree preferred
Strength and conditioning certification preferred (i.e., CSCS, NASM
CES, NASM PES) Key Responsibilities 1. Provide athletic training
services for the University’s athletic department, including:
injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management,
injury treatment and rehabilitation, first aid/bracing, and
educational programs. Coordinate and schedule physical examinations
and medical referrals for student athletes to determine their
ability to practice and compete Ensures quality of care to student
athletes and compliance to established standards and requirements.
Assists with the administration of athletic training services,
including, maintaining electronic medical records, inventorying
supplies and equipment, and scheduling follow-up appointments with
medical providers, diagnostic testing, and professional
consultations. Percentage Of Time 25 2. Counsel student athletes in
regards to health and wellness. Participates in development,
implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and
long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs
to assist in accomplishment of established goals. Percentage Of
Time 25 3. Serves as a liaison between physicians, administrators,
coaches, parents, and student athletes regarding injury prevention,
diagnosis, care, management, treatment, rehabilitation and
insurance claim submission. Performs miscellaneous job-related
duties as assigned. Percentage Of Time 25 4. Meet with the Head
Athletic Trainer on a regular basis to ensure strong communication
and best practices for exemplary care for student-athletes. Attend
staff meetings and perform other functions as directed by the Head
Athletic Trainer and Director of Athletics. Percentage Of Time
