Position Summary:

The Director, Commercial Development is a trusted member of the Horizon Therapeutics Commercial Development organization. The position serves as a pre-launch commercial product lead for Horizon pipeline assets. The role requires high levels of collaboration for success and interfaces with Senior level cross-functional colleagues. The Director, Commercial Development reports to the Executive Director, Commercial Development, UPLIZNA Life Cycle Management

The position is highly strategic and is responsible for leading the:

  • Value-focused commercial development of the UPLIZNA late-stage pipeline portfolio
  • Pre-launch commercial readiness activities
  • Development of long-term therapeutic area strategy (i.e., franchise plans) Responsibilities:

    The candidate will:
    • Serve as a pre-launch commercial product lead for Horizon pipeline assets, including UPLIZNA life-cycle management, leading pre-launch market planning activities including advisory boards, advocacy development, disease state education, class and product branding, market access planning, etc.
    • Work collaboratively with R&D, regulatory, medical affairs, and other key functions to develop and update life cycle management plans for key pipeline assets
    • Provide market analysis and strategic business insights across all available primary and secondary data elements. Participate in the framing of business questions, identification of information needs and development and management of market research projects
    • Develop, monitor, and manage budgets and timelines for market research and other pre-launch commercial projects and ensure appropriate allocation of resources
    • Develop commercial evaluations to facilitate pipeline portfolio stage-gate decisions, lifecycle management decisions, and licensing go / no-go decisions to incorporate the following:
      • Knowledge of Neurology, Rheumatology, Rare Disease, and/or other specialty therapeutic areas
      • Current and future competitive landscapes
      • Physician, payer, and patient market research surrounding unmet needs, target product profiles and market share expectations
      • Target pricing (US and Ex-US) including gross to net impacts
      • Promotion and sales force requirements Qualifications and Skills Required:
        • BA/BS in related field required; MBA preferred
        • 10+ years of pharmaceutical brand marketing and/or new product planning experience
        • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically, identify key issues, opportunities, and value drivers, and effectively translate strategic insights into an appropriate framework to drive business decisions
        • Proficient in the use and interpretation of secondary pharmaceutical data, including physician and claims-level data sets and various prescription audits (e.g. IMS)
        • Ability to thrive in a matrix organization and adapt quickly with a positive attitude in a constantly changing and growing workplace
        • Ability to interface with all levels of management and multiple departments, including presentation of market research results and strategic recommendations
        • In-depth understanding drug development and commercialization
        • Ability to converse with medical professionals about disease states/product categories targeted by Horizon (Neurology, Rheumatology, Rare Disease, and/or other specialty therapeutic areas)
        • Desire and ability to travel, when attending advisory boards, conferences, market research, etc. (up to -20% travel) Our Values
