Job Description:
The Department of Computer Science in the Physical Sciences
Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for
tenured faculty positions at the rank of Associate Professor. We
invite applicants specifically from the fields of Robotics and
Systems. The Department of Computer Science (cs.uchicago.edu) is
the hub of a large, diverse community of researchers focused on
advancing the foundations of computing and driving its most
advanced applications. The larger computer science community at the
University of Chicago includes the Data Science Institute (jointly
run by the departments of computer science and statistics), the
Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC), the Polsky Center
for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Argonne National
Laboratory. We encourage connections with researchers across the
university in such areas as bioinformatics, data science,
mathematics, molecular engineering, linguistics, statistics, public
policy, and social science, among others: the University’s culture
is highly collaborative. The University of Chicago is in the midst
of an ambitious, multi-year effort to significantly expand its
computing, data science, and AI activities. This represents a
unique opportunity for faculty to contribute to the future of the
department’s culture and trajectory. The Department of Computer
Science is housed in a newly designed, state-of-the-art building

Members of the faculty are expected to lead research programs that
will produce significant contributions to a field and teach and
mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position is
benefits-eligible. The University of Chicago offers a wide range of
benefits programs and resources for eligible employees, including
health, retirement, and paid time off. Information about the
benefit offerings can be found in the Benefits Guidebook .
