Job Description Job Description Overview: Under the general
supervision of the Park Specialist II, Park Specialist I, or Park
Support, the Park Maintenance IV position is responsible for
performing a variety of semi-skilled park maintenance activities
necessary to maintain our parks. Essential Duties and
Responsibilities: Participate in the preparation and maintenance of
the following: Turf, sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and
other park facilities. Ornamental horticulture maintenance
including planting trees, shrubs, and annual and perennial flowers,
fertilization, seeding, mowing, and sodding and other horticulture
needs. Trail maintenance including debris removal, grading, and
renovation. Park pavilions, restrooms, equipment, signs, and
assigned buildings. Park grounds through litter pickup and
recycling activities, bathroom cleaning, vandalism removal,
controlled prairie and wood burns, and hardscape maintenance.
Perform power and trim mowing in assigned parks. Provide support to
recreation programs and special events, volunteer programs, and
athletic tournaments. Support special event set-up, tear-down, and
maintenance during the event. Perform snow and ice removal
operations utilizing snow removal equipment on sidewalks, roads,
and parking lots. Demonstrate and support District customer service
standards. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Perform preventative
maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment. Other duties as
assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Basic skill in the
operation of tractors, heavy equipment, trucks, and other landscape
maintenance equipment, and basic knowledge of equipment maintenance
and repair. Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations
with general direction from supervisor. Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum three (3) months of park
maintenance or landscape maintenance experience, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Public Applicators
pesticide license as required by departmental needs. Possession of,
or the ability to obtain, Forklift Certification as required by
departmental needs. Special Considerations: Must be at least 18
years old. Subject to both office and outside environmental
conditions. Subject to modified/flexible work schedules including
weekends. Ability to lift, carry, and/or move objects weighing ? 50
lbs on a daily basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting
> 50 lbs. Exposure to pesticides, chemicals, dust, fumes, dirt,
loud noise, and insect bites. Prolonged lifting, stooping, bending,
twisting, standing, and climbing. Ability to travel to and work at
all Naperville Park District facilities. Subject to confined space
entry. Will be required to participate in confined space entry
training annually. Subject to respirator use. May be required to
pass a Quantitative Fit Test annually. Manual dexterity and
strength to operate power-operated machines and equipment. Regular
onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
